About Monroe County
Our Location Forty miles of the eastern county boundary is formed by the Ohio River. Monroe County Beacon is located in Woodsfield, the county seat. Woodsfield is 16 miles west of State Rt. 7 on Ohio Rt. 78. Counties bordering Monroe on the east are Marshall, Wetzel and Tyler in West Virginia, on the north is Belmont County, to the south is Washington County, and to the west is Noble County. Our Population
Monroe County is rural. Its population is about 15,100. According to the census figures, over 2,000 of those reside in Woodsfield.
Our Publications
For most residents, the Monroe County Beacon is the newspaper of choice. It is their county paper. We publish once a week, mail delivered on Thursday. The Beacon is on the newsstands on Wednesdays. Subscriptions are 100% mail delivered! Circulation: 4,900
