The Horse Whisperers 4-H club has continued its popular therapeutic riding program this year, overseeing its second event on June 26 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds. The program focuses on helping those with physical or mental disabilities through exercises on horseback. “I think it’s a lot of fun.

Midway Quilt Show

A quilt hanging and show was held in conjunction with the Monroe County Bicentennial Committee at Midway Community Center on June 27 and 28. More than 56 quilts were displayed, including family heirlooms and friendship quilts with names of community members. Many told the stories behind their quilts as they were hung. On display outside were county quilt squares.

The Court of Appeals for Monroe County to start an appellate mediation program

The Seventh District Court of Appeals located on Federal Street in downtown Youngstown, and the Court of Appeals, for Monroe County, announces it will start an appellate mediation program. The program will cover a variety of civil appeals, including personal injury, contract disputes, real property cases, employment disputes, and others.

Neva Hawkins

 Neva Jean Hawkins, 78, of Ellenton, Florida (formerly of Monroe County, Ohio), passed away June 25, 2015.  She was born February 27, 1937 in Graysville, Ohio to the late Gordon and Anna (Smith) Dillon. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Juanita, Raymond, Kenneth, Cleo, Olivia, and David.
