A quilt hanging and show was held in conjunction with the Monroe County Bicentennial Committee at Midway Community Center on June 27 and 28. More than 56 quilts were displayed, including family heirlooms and friendship quilts with names of community members. Many told the stories behind their quilts as they were hung. On display outside were county quilt squares.
Last year the Beacon arrived at the home of John and Nira (Reed) Howell in Shadyside with an article and a picture of Eleanor (Mooney) Forrer and her grandmother Elizabeth (Davenport) Mooney’s 1879 wedding dress.
