“This is about your responsibility to the community moving forward,” said emcee Karena Reusser as she spoke to the district’s best and brightest students at the Woodsfield Kiwanis Club’s 57th Anniversary of the Scholastic Recognition Banquet.

Lower oil and gas prices worldwide have caused concerns about whether or not the shale industry locally will slow down. However, drilling and permitting activity continues to move at a fast pace in the county. 

GMN Tri-County CAC, formed 50 years ago in 1965, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The organization was formed after President Lyndon Johnson declared a federal war on poverty in 1964.

River Sports 4/30/15

  River softball started their week off by hosting Tyler Consolidated High School. River easily defeated Tyler with a final of 17-0. Monica Curtis pitched 5 innings for the Pilots and recorded 4 strikeouts. Rosey Romick recorded 5 RBIs in the victory. The team then hosted the Shamrocks, of Barnesville High School which saw another Pilot victory with a final of 8-1.

Monroe Central Sports 4/30/15

  In a game of small ball, the Monroe Central Seminoles’ baseball team defeated Fort Frye at home on April 21. The game was a pitchers’ dual throughout with all of Monroe Central’s runs coming in the bottom half of the fifth. The Seminoles allowed the only Fort Frye run in the top of the sixth and then locked back down in the seventh for a 3-1 victory. 

Beallsville Sports 4/30/15

The Blue Devil Baseball Team was on the road for a double-header against Caldwell Saturday, April 18. Beallsville was put at a disadvantage early as Caldwell hit in 10 runs within just the first 3 innings. The Devils managed to bring in single runs in the third and fourth innings, but Caldwell later matched those two scores to end the first game 12-2.
