The Switzerland of Ohio Local School District [SOLSD] Board of Education passed the resolution to close Beallsville High School beginning in the 2015-16 school year. All board members were present, and the roll call vote went as follows: Jackie Hupp - Yes, Ron Winkler - Yes, Ed Carleton - No, Dave Matz - No, Justin Isaly - Yes. 

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is seeking the community’s assistance in locating a woman reported missing on Monday, Feb. 16. Missing is Tracy M. Heskett, age 48, of Lewisville. 

As reported in last week’s  Beacon, 10 people were arrested in a drug sweep on Feb. 10. At that time, five undisclosed suspects were still at-large.

Commissioners Discuss Big Projects That Could Transform Monroe County in Coming Years

Some of the conversations held during the Monroe County Commissioners meeting on Feb. 23 may lead to some of the most transformative projects in the upcoming era of Monroe County. In upcoming years, jets may frequent the Monroe County Airport as they land and take off on a newly extended runway.

River High School BPA Students Impress at Regional Competition

River High School Business Professionals of America members recently competed in Regional Skills Competitions.  They placed as follows: Tiffany Conners placed seventh in Medical Office Procedures. Windy Darrah placed fifth in Interview Skills. Daniel Fisher placed seventh in Banking & Finance and third in Extemporaneous Speech.

 The Lady Pilots started their tournament action at John Glenn High School in New Concord this past Thursday, Feb. 19. The team took on Newcomerstown in their first round of tournament play. 

The Pilots took a commanding lead early and never let up throughout the game. River won with a final of 78-13.

Beallsville was on the road Tuesday, Feb. 17, to take on opposing Buckeye Trail. The Blue Devils were an even opponent for the Warriors, and the score remained knotted between the two for the first half. The third quarter presented a different tale.
