Sports naturally draw those with a competitive spirit as they take to the court or field to showcase their hard work against worthy competitors. However, one of the best things about sports is, despite the competitiveness involved, that it brings people together. At Monroe Central High School on Oct.

A Monroe County girl was crowned as the 2015 Barnesville Pumpkin Festival Queen for this year’s 52nd annual event held Sept. 24-27. Crowned was Alli Wilcox of Woodsfield after she won a pageant preceding the festival on Sept. 20. 

The Local 2247 Men and Women of the Moose gave away $6,000 in scholarships this year.

Woodsfield Village Council appoints new council member

Woodsfield Village Council met on Oct. 5 with the main order of business being to fill a council seat left vacant by the resignation of Councilman Rick Shipp in August. After several weeks of seeking interested parties, only one letter of intent was received, and council passed a motion to appoint that one applicant, Misty Tolzda, to council. 

SHS Class of 1970 reunion held

The Skyvue Class of 1970 celebrated its 45th class reunion on September 5, 2015. Lots of  good memories and food were enjoyed throughout the afternoon. Fifteen classmates out of 51 were present. Those who did not attend are encouraged to attend the next reunion, which will be tentatively in two years. 

River Sports 10/8/15

  The football team traveled to Tyler to take on a tough 3-2 Knights team. River jumped out to an early lead on a Lukas Isaly run in the first, making it 6-0. Tyler was content to run the ball time and time again, ultimately building a 16-6 lead. Another Isaly touchdown, this time via a catch with a two-point conversion made it 16-14 late.
