The Monroe Central boys basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season while cruising to victory over in-county rival River by a large margin of 71-47. The game appeared to be a close affair in the first quarter with Monroe Central leading by a narrow margin of 12-10 after the first frame. However, the Seminoles began to find their rhythm in the second quarter and had secured a lead of 59-33 by the end of the third quarter.
The Monroe Central girls basketball team had a mixed week with two wins and one loss. The loss came at the hands of Shadyside on Dec. 3 by a score of 51-36. Monroe Central's powerful offense was largely held in check. Chelsie Tewanger was the sole Seminole to score in double-digits (10). Chelsie Roberts was held to eight points while Kelsey Dick scored five, Anne LaFollette scored four and Laycie Ball scored four.
The Lady Seminoles cruised to victory against Magnolia on Dec. 6 by a score of 70-34. The team held Magnolia to only single digits in the first half, going into the locker room with a 35-9 lead. The team never looked back, doubling their scoring output in the second half to win by 36. Leading Monroe Central was Chelsie Roberts, whose 32 points almost single-handedly defeated Magnolia. Other scoring leaders included Chelsie Tewanger (18), Anne LaFollette (six) and Elizabeth Robey (five).
