Woodsfield Village Council met on Dec. 17 with local surveyor Greg Biedenbach talking with them about mapping the village's infrastructure. Village Administrator Rick Schuerman had contacted Biedenbach about updating the village's maps which are extremely outdated. In turn, Biedenbach prepared information for council about beginning an infrastructure map that will give layouts of everything from the streets and alleys in the village to the electric grid and water and sewer systems.
Biedenbach said the mapping would all be done by satellite surveying, which is accurate down to mere inches. Biedenbach said the system allows him to put in coordinates to locate important locations of the infrastructure. “Every valve and manhole will be marked with coordinates,” Biedenbach said. Schuerman had mentioned that he would like to be able to utilize hand-held GPS units, and Biedenbach confirmed to council that GPS could be used with the mapping system.
Biedenbach explained that the main map, when finished, would be installed in computer software. When viewing the map on the computer, all layers (such as water or streets) can be viewed individually when needed.
