The recognition comes after Cassidy became RHS' first female track state champion in 26 years on June 2 of this year when she won the 300 meter 30” hurdle event at the OHSAA state championship track meet. Cassidy also competed in the 200 meter dash and 100 meter high hurdle events. River's assistant track coach, Bob Cicogna, spoke first at the assembly to highlight McCullough's accomplishments. Cicogna said only 3% of all Ohio high school track athletes qualify for state. Of those 3%, only 13 qualified for three events as McCullough did. Cassidy was also the the only female underclassman to perform in three state events while winning one.
