Cassidy McCullough, a senior at River High School, was recognized with a very high honor last week at a school assembly. The 129th Assembly of the Ohio House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution to congratulate McCullough on her accomplishments at the 2012 Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) state championship track meet. Sponsoring the resolution and personally delivering a certificate of recognition was Ohio Representative Jack Cera (95th District).

The recognition comes after Cassidy became RHS' first female track state champion in 26 years on June 2 of this year when she won the 300 meter 30” hurdle event at the OHSAA state championship track meet. Cassidy also competed in the 200 meter dash and 100 meter high hurdle events.

River's assistant track coach, Bob Cicogna, spoke first at the assembly to highlight McCullough's accomplishments. Cicogna said only 3% of all Ohio high school track athletes qualify for state. Of those 3%, only 13 qualified for three events as McCullough did. Cassidy was also the the only female underclassman to perform in three state events while winning one. Cicogna made certain to emphasize that McCullough did all of this while maintaining a G.P.A. of over 3.5.
