As always, Woodsfield was filled to the brim with crowds over the weekend as the village’s biggest annual event, the Woodsfield High School/Monroe Central High School Alumni Weekend, took place. Hundreds of spectators lined the streets for the annual parade.

With the arrival of warmer temperatures and increased recreational water activities in Ohio, the state is further strengthening its approach to addressing harmful algal blooms in recreational waters like state park lake beaches and boat ramps.

A common statement made by community members during the process to close Beallsville High School in late 2014 and early 2015 was, “We never have security.

SHCC works on local cemetery

The Construction Trades I and Agricultural Mechanics I students at Swiss Hills Career Center (SHCC) recently completed work at the Low Gap Cemetery in Cline near Graysville. The students, along with instructors Bob Dougherty, Titus Cecil and Andy Schumacher, fixed approximately 25 stones that had fallen over due to wear and tear over the years.

Woodsfield’s Alumni Weekend is over. After all the hustle and bustle, the town seems kind of empty now. Most of those visiting have returned to their homes in the big cities, and small town life is normal again.

65 Years Ago - 1951

About 80 Woodsfield 4-H members left Woodsfield for a cruise on the Ohio River aboard the steamer Avalon. About 800 4-H members from Belmont and Monroe counties went on a cruise from Bellaire to Dilles Bottom and returned.

Larry and Helen Datkuliak of Melbourne, FL, Steve Datkuliak of Gainesville, FL, Lisa Datkuliak of Melbourne, FL, David, Vickie, Adam, Peter and Timothy Datkuliak of Cameron, N.C. were in due to the stroke and passing of Elmer Datkuliak.   Many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends attended the funeral on June 10th at St. John’s U.C.C., German Ridge.

  Monroe County based Kroll Energy Krushers 18U Fastpitch opened play in Columbus on June 3rd at Berliner Park. The Krushers went 4-1-2 at the Summer Warm-Up.
