The Monroe Central Seminoles boys basketball brought their season record to a perfect 7-0 in the first round of the Meadowbrook Hoops Classic at Meadowbrook High School on Dec. 28.
The Seminoles opened the weekend tournament with a 70-56 win over Buckeye Local. Monroe Central led 39-32 at half-time before doubling their advantage by the end of the game.
Leading Monroe Central in scoring was Senior stand-out Korey Lafferre who put up 24 points. Other leading scorers included Cameron Jorris (13 points), Kordell Antill (12 points), Levi Brown (eight points) and Zack Jorris (seven points).
Due to an early deadline, results were unavailable for the Seminoles’ Dec. 29 game. The game against Fort Frye on Dec. 21 was cancelled due to inclement weather.
In their only scheduled game of until Jan. 3, the Monroe Central Lady Seminoles fell to Shadyside by a score of 71-57 on Dec. 22. The Lady Seminoles found themselves in the same hole for most of the game and were never able to dig themselves out after trailing 38-24 at halftime.
