A small crime spree hit Clarington on New Year’s Eve night as people celebrated the new year. One house was burglarized, a car was broken into, and Grissell Funeral Home had a window broken during the night’s criminal activity.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the crimes at 1:16 a.m. on Jan. 1 when a call came in that a house had been burglarized. A residence on Brown St. was targeted, and several items were stolen from the home. Among the items stolen were firearms, a television and a Wii gaming system.

Upon arriving at the home, officers found a promising lead. “The officers responding found footprints in the snow and began to follow them,” Sheriff Charles Black said. Officers were able to follow the footprints to an area near the USWA Local 5724 Union Hall and Grisell Funeral Home where presumably the suspects left from a parked car.
