Future of Grandstand To Be Examined

An engineer’s study has been scheduled to determine what must be done to make the Monroe County Fair grandstand safe after Monroe County Fairboard members John Ackerman and Tracey Truax met with commissioners on Jan. 7. The fairboard has been in contact with Matt Brake of Swiss Valley Associates (SVA) about completing the study. SVA submitted a proposal in which they would examine the soundness of the structure, do a sketch of the structure, list options for repair and give their recommendation for how to proceed. The proposal came at the price of $4,510 with an optional $500 study to give an engineer’s estimate on reinforcing the structure with steel.

Commissioners expressed that they were willing to go ahead with the engineer’s study because it was necessary in determining the future of the structure. Commissioner John Pyles made a motion to fund the study at a cost of $5,010. The motion was carried.
