The Monroe Central Seminoles boys basketball team managed to get to the championship game of the first inaugural Newt Oliver Basketball Classic tournament at Meadowbrook High School with a strong win over Buckeye Local on Dec. 28 as reported last week. However, in the championship game on Dec. 29, the home standing Meadowbrook Colts proved to be too much for the Seminoles. After entering the fourth quarter losing by only three in a tight game (46-43), the Seminoles saw the Colts pull away in the fourth quarter for a final of 68-58.
It was the first loss of the Seminoles’ season. Leading the Seminoles in the loss was Levi Brown who put up 16 points. The team’s leading scorer Korey Lafferre scored 12, and Cameron Jorris scored 11 in limited play.
Monroe Central went back to their winning ways on Jan. 4 with a strong victory over Caldwell on the road. After winning a close one to PVC-rival Caldwell earlier in the season, the Seminoles had a much easier time this time with a blow-out 88-65 win.
