The Monroe Central Seminoles boys varsity basketball team had a challenging week as they played through a four-game stretch without suspended players (and leading scorers) Korey Lafferre and Cameron Jorris. Despite the challenges, the team began the week with a hard-fought 64-60 win against Shadyside. The game was a back and forth affair with Shadyside leading 50-48 going into the fourth quarter, but Monroe Central was able to hang on to victory.
Due to the absences of their leading scorers, other Seminoles had to step up to lead the team. Having his best game of the year was Bryan Duffy, leading all scorers with 22 points. Zack Jorris also hit double digits with 17 points. Also scoring for the Seminoles were Kordell Antill (eight points), Levi Brown (seven points), Chandler Kuhn (six points), Seth Alleman (two points) and Camden Hill (two points).
The loss of two starters was too much for the Seminoles in their next game against PVC power Buckeye Trail on the road on Jan. 11. Buckeye Trail (now 6-3 on the year) was able to pull out an 82-73 victory as they pulled away in the second half after a close first half. The loss was only the second of Monroe Central’s season.
