Monroe County Sheriff Charles Black described a late-night drug bust as another victory in his office’s unending battle against illegal drugs.

Four suspects were arrested in the early morning hours Saturday, Jan. 7 and charged with drug-related offenses.

Eldora Jean Gehring Trader

Eldora Jean Gehring Trader, age 81 of Sardis, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at Muskingum Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Beverly.

She was born Aug. 13, 1935, in Monroe County, the daughter of the late Isaac J. and Pearl A. Riggenbach Gehring.

John I. Roe

John I. Roe, 81, of Woodsfield, and Pompano Beach, Florida, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at the Avante Rehabilitation Center, Boca Raton, Florida.

He was born near Calais, on Feb. 18, 1935, a son of the late Clarence and Olive Pearl Brown Roe.

Ellsworth Blattler

Ellsworth Blattler, 92, formerly of Beallsville, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, in the Arbors at Woodsfield.

He was born Sept. 26, 1924, near Beallsville, a son of the late Clyde and Lula Brock Blattler.

Ellsworth was a self-employed truck driver for his family's business.

Chad Byers earns Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Rice University

Chad Byers, a 2010 Marietta College Physics graduate and Rickey Scholar, continued his educational goals at Rice University in Houston, Texas. At Rice University Chad earned both his Master of Applied Physics and his Ph.D. of Applied Physics. Chad was co-advised by Stephan Link and Christy Landes, professors of Chemistry and Electrical Engineering while at Rice.

Grump's Bunch raised more than $2,000 for Monroe County Gas Cards through its annual Christmas cookie sales.

This is the 10th year Grump’s Bunch has made cookie trays, fudge and buckeyes to sell to the public. Each year the sales have gone up due to the outpouring of support from the community and friends.
