River sports began with a bang this week on Monday January 7th.The OVAC AAA standings had the second ranked Lady Pilots (10-2) hosting the number one ranked Fort Frye Cadets (9-1). Earlier in the year River fell to Fort Frye by a 63-36 final on the road, but the Lady Pilots would redeem themselves in a 46-42 overtime thriller at home.

Jensen Caretti was the leading scorer with 15 points, while Laken Ramsay was also in double figures with 12 points. Haylee Bowers contributed 9 points. Cassidy McCullough added 8 points, while Emile Weaver rounded off the scoring with 2 points.

On Tuesday, January 8th, River was down by one to the Bridgeport Bulldogs as the game began due to a technical foul being called during pregame warm-ups, but River scored on their opening possession to take the lead. River controlled most of the game only giving up small Bridgeport runs. The Pilots turned a 42-22 halftime lead into a 76-39 win.

Brett Price was the leading scorer with 21 points. He had 2 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists. Jordan Indermuhle had a double-double scoring 18 and grabbing 12 boards. Chad Isaly had 15 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists. Cody Caldwell added 6 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Kam Brown and Matt Marconi each scored 5 points. Brown had 8 rebounds, while Marconi grabbed 4. Eric Dierkes contributed 4 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Ryan Indermuhle rounded off the scoring with 2 points. Evan Eggleston had 3 rebounds.  Joey Flannery had 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Jarrett Armann had 2 rebounds. Cole Isaly had one rebound and an assist.

The Pilots participated in a tri with Steubenville Catholic Central (SCC) and Shadyside (SS) on Wednesday, January 9th. Few Pilots picked up individual victories, as the Pilots fell short of the Crusaders 48-33 and the Tigers 55-24. River forfeited the 106 weight classes to both teams. Chase Schultheis (113) picked up a win over the Crusaders by forfeit, while Hank Golbe (285) won by forfeit over the Tigers. Josh Stewart (120) of River pinned Bailey Chaplin (SS) in 3:04. River's Jordan Sapp (145) pinned Ricky Happ (SCC) in 1:58. Dakota Dunn (182) of River defeated Lucas Borden (SCC) in a 13-12 decision. He pinned Scott Hammond (SS) in 3:15. River's Brett Rosen (195) pinned Marty Engle (SCC) in 2:44. He won by forfeit over Shadyside. River's JD Dotson (220) pinned Caleb Moore (SCC) in 1:18. He pinned Dante Defelice (SS) in 0:39.
