An entire hillside encroached upon SR 255 during last week near the Goddard Ridge intersection. Initially, the road was limited to one lane after a slip during the beginning of last week. As ODOT tried to clean up the debris and make the area safe, another slip took place later in the week that forced the closure of the road on Wednesday, Jan. 16. ODOT employee Mike Brown said he was working on the hillside when the second slip happened that completely covered the roadway with debris. Large rocks hit the trackhoe he was in and jostled him towards the creek. He was able to get out safely but said the situation could have been a lot worse. While the photo shows the road cleared and being cleaned on Friday, Jan. 18, the road was shut down over the weekend due to visible cracks in what was left of the hillside. It was anticipated that more slipping could take place unless workers cut back further into the hill. The closure disrupted traffic from a local horizontal well site that used the section of SR 255 as their bonded route. As of press time, the road was expected to be opened to traffic by the time of this publication. To read the rest of this article please subscribe or sign in |
