The biggest high school wrestling event of the year took place over the weekend with the Ron Mauck OVAC Tournament. Monroe Central had several wrestlers participating and finished 25th in the tournament which includes 39 schools of all sizes.

Having the most success for the Seminoles wrestling squad were Chase Carothers (132), who finished in seventh place in his class of 31 wrestlers, and Colton Robinson (285) who finished in eighth place in his class of 24 wrestlers.

Carothers began his run with a fall at 0:31 to defeat Jake Haswell of Shadyside. Next, Carothers lost to the four seed, Anthony Parada of Steubenville. After falling to the lower bracket, Carothers went on a tear defeating Jared Fairchild of Meadowbrook, Nick Fisher of Edison and Aaron West of Beallsville before falling to six seed Casey Mowder of John Marshall.

Robinson opened with a bye and then fell to five seed Jeff Howdersheit of University via a fall at 1:07. Robinson then defeated Zeke Andrews of John Marshall, Zack Elias of Harrison Central and Alex Newman of Magnolia before being defeated by three seed Preston Wise of Buckeye Local by a fall at 0:20.

Other Seminole wrestling results were as follows: Ryan Ruble (106): bye, loss to one seed, victory against Tanner Strain of Union Local via a 4-3 decision, and a loss. Jaren Hupp (126): Loss to four seed, loss. Zac Potts (four seed at 152): victory via fall, victory via major decision, loss to five seed, loss. Michael Jones (160): Loss to two seed, victory via fall, loss. Anthony Block (170): Loss, loss. Justin Kilburn (220): loss to seven seed, bye, loss.

The Monroe Central boys basketball team played one more game this week without scoring leaders Korey Lafferre and Cameron Jorris. Against a strong Shenandoah Zeps team at home, they were able to shake off a one-point deficit at half-time and after the third quarter to pull away in the end by a score of 60-52.
