Superintendent Hall files lawsuit

  There is no doubt that the relationship between Switzerland of Ohio Local School District (SOLSD) Superintendent John Hall and members of the Board  of Education have been strained.  School Board meetings for the past three or four months have been down right ugly and have sometimes been more like sparring matches.  

Commissioners award jail bid; Meeting becomes contentious over Port Authority

 The Monroe County Commissioners reconvened for a special session meeting on Tuesday, September 20 at 10:00 a.m. The purpose was to discuss the construction of the jail with  Rob Train, Todd Butler, and Evan Schroeder of Granger Construction; Architect Garry McAnally and Rick Smith, from Watchel and McAnally; and Prosecutor James Peters.  

School Board discusses Keystone settlement

Attorney Michael J. Shaheen, representing The Keystone Committee and Lou Bedford, has made a  offer to the Switzerland of Ohio Local School District (SOLSD) to settle the Keystone Committee, et al v. The Switzerland of Ohio School District, Case No. CVH 2015-121, for the sum of $110,000.00 for attorney fees.  The offer was discussed during the Sept.

Commissioners discuss MCCC

  LeaderStat announced during the Monroe County Commissioners’ regular session meeting on Monday, Sept. 26, that they have hired Verona Bair as Director of Nursing at the Monroe County Care Center (MCCC).

Woodsfield Council discusses water leak

Don Bertchy, Rose Saffle, Shelba Wills and Thelma Zimmerman attended the Village of Woodsfield Council meeting on Monday, September 19 to discuss their concerns about the water leak on Westview Drive. Bertchy served as the spokesman for the group and told Council that the leak has to be repaired because the road was rapidly deteriorating.

ODOT reminds locals to mind political signs

During the campaign season, many public and private entities like to show their political support by putting up candidate signs. During this time the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) asks to please “Mind your Signs” and keep them off the state’s highway right-of-way - it’s the law!

River boys golf finishes third in OVGL

The River boys golf team competed in the 2016 Ohio Valley Golf League (OVGL) Championship on Sept. 22. The team finished third with a team score of 346. 

Isaac Curtis shot a 74, good for the third best score. He was named to the All-OVGL team for his efforts. 

Bellaire defeats Lady Pilots at home

The River Lady Pilots volleyball team played host to an unusual tri-match on Sept. 22, hosting Tyler Consolidated from West Virginia and Shenandoah from Noble County. Playing against fierce competition, the Pilots ended the match with two losses. 

MCHS volleyball ends week at 0-3

The Monroe Central Lady Seminoles had a rough week in volleyball action. After beginning the week with a record of 7-2, the team fell to three tough teams to finish the week with a record of 7-5.
