Beallsville sports had a largely uneventful week as both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams had only one scheduled game each this week.
The Beallsville boys basketball team was able to fend off a competitive Valley team on Jan. 22 with a tight 78-72 victory. The Blue Devils trailed for the majority of the game. After one quarter, Valley had a four-point lead. Beallsville gained two on Valley in the second quarter before the teams came up even in the third. Entering the fourth quarter at a two-point deficit, the Blue Devils turned on the burners to outscore Valley by eight in the final frame to earn the victory.
Exploding for a stellar game was Teryn Jarrett who was one rebound and one assist shy of a triple-double in a 36 point effort. Jarrett also had five steals to go along with his nine rebounds and nine assists. Kyle Groves also had a very impactful game. Groves scored 17 points on a perfect 7/7 night from the field and pulled down eight rebounds. Other team leaders included Dalton Secrest who scored 12 points and pulled down six boards, and Tristen Palmer who scored nine and had nine rebounds.
On a scheduling note, the boys varsity basketball team will play a make-up game on Feb. 4 at home against Frontier. Senior night will be held as well as the Hoops for Hope event. All revenue from the game will go to Beallsville’s Rally For Life program.
