For the 58th straight year, the  Woodsfield Kiwanis Club held its annual  Scholastic Recognition Banquet at Swiss Hills Career Center on Tuesday, April 26.

    John Ackerman, President of the Monroe County Agriculture Society and Roger Cline, President of the Monroe County Fair Board, met with Monroe County Commissioners during their regular session meeting on May 2.

    For the second year in a row, Switzerland of Ohio Local School District (SOLSD) Talented and Gifted students brought home top honors from the annual Ohio Legislative Summit, a regional competition designed to educate students on the legislative process.

Brown/Miller engagement

 Jeffrey and Wendi Miller of Somerton announce the engagement of their daughter Jenna Marie Miller to Brandon Dean Brown, son of Wesley and Amanda Brown of Barnesville.

Jenna is a 2009 graduate of Barnesville High School and is employed as a Registered Nurse at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville and at Barnesville Hospital.

Obituary-Max Ritchie

Max C. Ritchie, age 81 of Clarington, OH, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 in OVMC, Wheeling, WV. He was born June 25, 1934 in Hannibal, OH, a son of the late Wilfred James and Madge Cline Ritchie.

He was a retired employee of the former Ormet Corp, Hannibal.

Obituary-Elmer Rogers

Elmer Raymond Rogers, age 61, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away April 27, 2016 in Macon, Georgia.  He was born February 19, 1955, the son of the late Harold Vernon Rogers and Patricia Ann Rogers.  He was a truck driver by profession. He lived much of his early life in Woodsfield, Ohio and was a 1973 graduate of Woodsfield High School.



  The Beallsville Lady Blue Devils softball team fought hard against Paden City at home on April 20 but couldn’t overcome an early deficit.
