At the Tuesday, January third meeting of the Monroe Arts Council, the group elected officers for 2017. Elected president was former vice president Mick Schumacher; vice president, Kim Schaber, tourism director; and Carole Helbling, recording secretary. Sam Miller will continue as treasurer for the organization.

Area elementary students had the opportunity to spend a morning touring the Milky Way last week as COSI on Wheels visited each of Switzerland of Ohio’s five elementary schools.

The Ohio Valley River Museum has only existed for about seven years, but its stockpile of treasures stretches the gamut of Ohio Valley history.

Martha L. Hill

Martha L. Hill, age 93, of Jerusalem, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at her home.

She was born Aug. 13, 1923, at Frametown, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Jacob and Eva Pierson Reip.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodsfield. 

David P. Cline

On Jan. 13, 2017, Heaven received a new angel.

David P. Cline, 54, was a devoted husband, son, brother, uncle and nephew. He loved the outdoors and hunting. He had a love of motor sports and four wheelers. He loved animals.

Meeting Notice

A special meeting for the Monroe County Port Authority will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24 at the Monroe County Department of Job and Family Services, 100 Home Ave., Woodsfield, OH 43793.

The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss real estate contracts.
