The difference between the NARCONON drug education program, implemented last week in the Switzerland of Ohio Local School District (SOLSD) for the third year, and the traditional drug education program is intensity and honesty.

Times for reflection, hope and encouragement were included at the Monroe County Suicide Prevention Coalition’s Sixth Annual Awareness Event September 10 at the Monroe County Courthouse. Music provided by Moriah Dailey and Ben Lenhart throughout the event provided times of quiet reflection, as well as hope.

SR 556 to be closed

Beginning Monday, September 26, SR 556 in Monroe County will be closed 3.76 miles west of the intersection of SR 7 and SR 556. The road is being realigned due to a landslide. The estimated completion date is October 7, 2016. ODOT’s official detour is SR 556 to SR 7 to SR 148 to SR 145 to SR 556.

MCSPC Awareness Event offers hope

AEP schedules open house to discuss new electric transmission line

AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), AEP Ohio Transmission Company Inc., Buckeye Power and Washington Electric Cooperative are taking steps to improve electric service in Marietta and the surrounding area. The plan includes construction of a new 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line in Monroe County.

Rare White Hummingbird

David Langsdorf of Fly had an interesting visitor this Summer. From late May/early June to August, Langsdorf played host to several hummingbirds. Amongst the group was a pearl, a rare white hummingbird. The sighting is rare enough that several websites are devoted to white hummingbirds. Langsdorf hopes to host the unique visitor next year as well.
