After months of back and forth debate, including several meetings attended by concerned community members clad in blue, Beallsville High School’s future was finally determined during a special Switzerland of Ohio Local School District [SOLSD] Board of Education meeting held on Thursday, Feb. 26.

The River Pilots fourth-grade basketball team won the Ohio Youth Basketball State Championship which was held recently in Columbus. They defeated Lucasville Valley in the championship game 37-30. This makes back to back state championships as they won the third grade division last year.

Recently celebrating its grand opening with a Monroe County Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony was White Law Office, Co. of 107 W. Court St., Woodsfield. The law firm’s office will be located in the former office of Judge Jim Peters.

Eileen Taylor

           Eileen Taylor, 90, of Brandy Woods Assisted Living, Woodsfield, Ohio, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield, Ohio.

Hannah Baranich

Hannah Belle Baranich, age 89, of Clarington, died February 28, 2015 in Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield. She was born April 24, 1925, in Powhatan Point, a daughter of the late William Henry and Mary Alice Robb Armann.

Thomas Smith

Thomas K. Smith, age 69, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Thursday February 26, 2015 at the Ross Heart Center Columbus, Ohio.  He was born June 19, 1945 in Monroe County Ohio a son of Doris Christman Smith of Woodsfield and the late Paul L. Smith.

Tom retired from Conalco Aluminum and was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Charles Raber Jr.

Charles “Chuck” Clark Raber Jr., 51, of New Martinsville, WV, went to be with his Lord, March 1, 2015 at The James Center Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, while surrounded by his family. “Chuck” was born October 21, 1963, in Moundsville, WV, son of Charles and Ilene (Anderson) Raber, Sr. of New Martinsville, WV.
