The Monroe Central boys basketball varsity team avenged a 73-49 drubbing at the hands of in-county rival River in the OVAC third place game last week as the teams faced off again on Feb. 20 for a regular season match-up. Monroe Central used a strong second half to jump to a 57-53 victory.
The game started with an early River lead as the Pilots jumped ahead 13-6 after one quarter. Monroe Central still trailed 32-26 at half time. However, the Seminoles outscored River 16-11 in the third quarter and 15-10 in the fourth to obtain the victory.
Monroe Central was led in the victory by seniors Korey Lafferre and Kordell Antill who scored 15 and 14 points respectively. Cameron Jorris added nine points, while Bryan Duffy added eight. Rounding out the scoring were Josh Guiler (five points), Chandler Kuhn (four points) and Levi Brown (two points).
