The Beallsville Blue Devils quickly jumped on opponent Strasburg early at home on Sept. 5. The Blue Devils scored two touchdowns within 10 seconds in the first quarter and never looked back on their way to a 23-6 victory.

The scoring started with 7:35 left in the first quarter when quarterback Chase Mercer completed a 78 yard passing touchdown to Zach Daugherty. The PAT made it 7-0. Mercer followed up with a big play on the defensive side as he returned an interception 12 yards to make the score 13-0. Strasburg also scored in the first quarter to make the score 13-6. The Blue Devils added a rushing touchdown from Zach Raines in the second quarter as well as a 24 yard field goal from Tristan Palmer to make the scre 23-6 in the second quarter. That score held after a scoreless second half.

The Beallsville Blue Devils knew their opening game against stalwart Weirton Madonna would be a challenge. The perennial playoff participant proved to be too much of a challenge for the Blue Devils as Beallsville fell by a final of 47-13.

Weirton Madonna quickly jumped ahead 7-0 in the first quarter. But, the Blue Devils came right back with a Chase Mercer three yard touchdown pass. The missed PAT made it 7-6.

From then on out, it was all Weirton Madonna. The team scored on a long pass and a long run in the first quarter to make the score 19-6. In the second quarter, they pulled even further ahead with two long passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown to take the lead at 41-6.

The Beallsville Lady Blue Devils started their season out with a tri-match against Monroe Central and Shadyside on Aug. 23. The Lady Blue Devils fell in both matches. Against Monroe Central, they 12-25 and 8-25. Dicey Stewart led the effort with two kills and an ace. The Lady Blue Devils were more competitive against Shadyside but ultimately fell by a final of 19-25 and 10-25.

The Beallsville Lady Blue Devils track team competed in the district track meet in Newcomerstown on May 23. Dicey Stewart’s fourth place finish in the shot put allowed her to advance to the next round. Stewart tossed at 30 feet, eight and a half inches.

The Beallsville Blue Devils track teams competed in the Ohio Valley Track League Championship on May 15. The girls finished sixth out of six teams. The boys finished fifth out of six teams as Shayside and Linsly dominated all competitors. Neither team had any winners in individual events.
