The Paradox of Our Age

We have bigger houses, but smaller families;

More conveniences, but less time;

More knowledge, but less judgment;

More experts, but more

problems;

More medicines, but less healthiness;

We have been all the way to the moon and back,

But have trouble crossing the street to meet our new neighbor.

We built more computers to hold more informatin, but have less communication.

We have become long on quantity, but short on quality.

These are the times of fast food, but slow digestion;

Tall man but short character;

Steep profits but shallow

relationships,

It is a time where there is much in the window, but nothing in the room.

-Dalai Lama

Happy birthday to Darla Cline Shannon, June 11 and to Kyleeah Williams June 10.

Life is like a supermarket. Everything is on the shelf. You can gather smiles or teardrops; all you do is help yourself. You’ll find loyalties and kindness, greed and love, romance and hate, each one marked and priced so plainly. Purchase wisely; it’s your fate.

Take your time, avoid bad bargains as you go along life’s market. Remember, when you leave life’s market, for each item you must pay.  Unknown

March has been a real March. Sunny, warm, cold, snow, rain, wind and gentle breeze, and beautiful days. Enjoy. Summer is near; then there will be lots of work to do. Hope to be able to do some of it.

“To Make A House A Happy Home”. It takes a lot of loving to make a house a happy home. To make a place of comfort out of wood and wire and stone, it takes photographs and souvenirs and knick-knacks on the shelves. Memories of the ones we love and pieces of ourselves. It’s flowers planted by the door, and dinner on the stove, the kind of life lived down to earth, with guidance from above. But, really what it takes most is kindness that is shown by people and the love they spend to make a house a home.-HSR

Thought for the day - if little ears should not hear it, big mouths should not say it.

Another year has gone by so fast and another birthday. Man!! Tisha Brown, Joann Robertson and I all share the 26th of Feb. I’m sure there are more. Zachary Williams will be eight on Feb. 17. So happy birthday.

I did find a raisin pie filling recipe that I may try one of these days if anyone will eat it.

1 1/2 pounds of brown raisins, 3/4 cup white sugar, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 8 cups of water, 1 ounce of oleo. Mix all ingredients in a large pot. Cook at a boil, stirring occasionally until raisins float. Next, add a little over a 1/4 cup of corn starch for thickening. Add more if needed. Fill a pie crust and save the rest for later. May store in refrigerator for up to a month.

Thought for today - Dec. 27 - A true friend is the greatest of all blessings, and the one which we take the least thought to acquire..LR

“Hugs”

Start the New Year out by giving someone you know a big hug. It’s wondrous what a hug can do. A hug can cheer you when you’re blue. A hug can say “I love you so”, or “Gee!I hate to see you go”. A hug is “Welcome back again”.

A hug can soothe a small child’s pain and bring a rainbow after rain. The hug! There’s just no doubt about it, we scarcely could survive without it. A hug delights and warms and charms. It must be why God gave us arms.

Hugs are great for fathers and mothers, sweet for sisters, swell for brothers, and chances are some favorite aunts. Love them more than potted plants.

Kittens crave them, puppies love them. Heads of state are not above them. A hug can break the language barrier, and make the dullest day seem merrier. No need to fret about how to store ‘em. The more you give, the more there are of ‘em!

So stretch those arms without delay and give someone a hug a day. Unknown

Happy birthday to Stormie VanMeenen on Dec. 17.

Zachary and Kyleeah Williams spent the weekend with Linda, Gene and David VanMeenen and Ray and Helen Cline.

Gene, Linda and David VanMeenen and Morgan McConnell spent a weekend recently with Stormie VanMeenen at Ravenna.

Jessica Williams and Kyleeah spent a day recently with Ray and Helen Cline.  She did some work for us that is easier for a younger person to do.  I guess I have to admit I’m getting older.

Ray has been telling me for 50 years that I’m getting old.  Well, I will have to agree with him now.

She put up our Christmas lights.  I keep thinking I won’t do it this year, but she always comes around and does it. She puts the tree up, too--later, I hope.  It takes her such a short time to do things.
