The 2016 Monroe County Fair Princess and Queen were crowned after the annual parade. Crowned as Princess was Korah Anderson. Crowned as Queen was Cheyenne Wagner.

The 166th annual Monroe County Fair is underway this week. Opening night on Monday, August 22 was busy as several events were offered. 

The Switzerland of Ohio Local School District (SOLSD)  became the first Monroe County entity to sign up for Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel’s new ohiocheckbook.com. The site encourages government transparency and posts a wealth of information of how public funds are spent.

Lowell and Judy Thomas of Malaga had a surprise when a normal cherry tomato plant starting growing at least six inches a day. Lowell started to feed the plant Miracle Grow, and it now stands at around 12 feet tall. However, Lowell said it would be taller if stretched out and estimates the plant exceeds 16 feet.

Belmont County Chapter 79 OPERS meeting date changed to Sept. 7

Ohio State University Extension, Belmont and Monroe Counties, is presenting an educational session for landowners regarding factors to consider when thinking about selling oil and gas royalties or mineral rights. This free session will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Monroe County Library, 96 Home Ave., Woodsfield, OH.

Ohio Valley River Museum to hold exhibit

The Ohio Valley River Museum, Inc., 112 Ferry Street, Clarington, OH announces a special exhibit will be at the facility .ocated in the former Ohio Valley Community Credit Union building, during Labor Day weekend on Friday and Saturday, September 3 and 4. Hours are 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. both days. The exhibit is a tribute to the River High School Alumni Association.
