Willa Mae (Hawks) Carter, 87, peacefully passed through the veil on September 23, 2025, at her home in Monroe County, Ohio.
Her journey began on May 19, 1938, in Cook County, Ill., born to Jesse Willett Sprague Hawks and Hazel Mae (Jarvis) Hawks.
Willa Mae married William Franklin Carter in Orlando, Fla., and she is survived by her three children; Linda Lee (Carter) and Sherwood Zern of St. Cloud, Fla.; William F. and Paula Carter of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Ilaina Kelly Carter of Monroe County, Ohio.
A proud and devoted matriarch, Willa Mae leaves behind a legacy of love through her 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren – each one held dearly in her heart.
Willa Mae will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her gentle strength, and the quiet grace with which she lived her days.
Willa Mae was deeply centered in her faith. A devoted member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she found great joy and strength in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her love for the scriptures, temple work, and genealogy was unwavering. Her gentle spirit, enduring faith, and warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She has returned home with honor, into the loving arms of her savior. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the Faith” 2 Timothy 4:7
In accordance with her wishes, no public service will be held.
