Jo seph Lewis Schaum, age 90, of Sardis, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, at WVU Medicine Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville, West Virginia.
He was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, a son of the late George A. and Lorena Potts Schaum.
He was a retired boat captain with a 50-year license from the Coast Guard. He piloted several different boats and was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict veteran, stationed in Whittier, Alaska.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Daphne Schaum; a brother, George Schaum Jr.; and two sisters, Rosetta Fleming and Shirley Monahan.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Edna Abrigg Schaum; three sons, Joseph (Lynn) Schaum, of Frankfort, Kentucky, Carl (Teresa) Schaum, of Cynthiana, Kentucky and Jasen Schaum, of Sardis; two daughters, Kim Schaum, of Waterford, and Beth (Bill) Sokolowski, of Bridgeport; two sisters, Bonnie Logston, of Hannibal, and Mary Tisher, of Sardis; and 15 grandchildren.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
