Beth Ann Grubb Sistrunk peacefully joined Christ in Heaven on Sunday, April 30, 2023, with her husband by her side.
Beth was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, to Jerry and Beverly Beardmore Grubb.
She grew up near Jerusalem caring for animals and creating anything and everything her imagination desired, including dolls and their clothes, baskets, drawings and paintings, pet residences and even little wooden boats to float down local streams. She spent her summers feeding her creativity through exploring the vast outdoors with her ever present cat, Boots, and golden retriever, Sunney, at her side. When she wasn’t drawing, her winters were spent designing dream houses, ball gowns and landscapes on paper, baking and decorating cookies, sewing garments or cat toys, and reading fantasy fiction novels or writing short stories and poems. She was an active member of 4-H, Girl Scouts, was first trumpet in the marching band (she would also play “Taps” for local Veterans’ services), she sang in her high school choir where she was a featured soloist, and she mastered the piano learning pieces by Chopin, Debussy, List, Mozart, Bach and Beethoven. She graduated Valedictorian of the BHS Class of 1997. After working in graphic design and the financial industry through her 20s she realized that she wanted to pursue her first love, painting. She studied everything she could get her hands on, including texts written in the 19th Century, a few of which were in French, and thought about painting all day every day. She developed a habit of constant analysis and thoughtful execution that helped her become a world-class artist. Beth has been represented by Rehs Contemporary Galleries in New York City since 2018 and her work has been exhibited in many prestigious galleries including 1261 Gallery in Denver, the Richard J. Demato Gallery in the Hamptons, Principle Gallery in Alexandria, Virginia, Robert Lange Studios in Charleston South Carolina, ABEND Gallery and Dacia Gallery in New York City as well as numerous museums throughout the country in juried national and international exhibitions. Her work has appeared in American Art Collector Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, Long Island Pulse, Strokes of Genius, the Art Renewal Center Catalog as well as many other notable digital and printed media. She also won Best of Show in the Bold Brush Painting Competition, several awards for Creative Innovation and Achievement as well as other notable awards. Surviving are her husband, Earl, of Naples, Florida; parents, Jerry Grubb, of Belmont, and Beverly Beardmore Grubb, of Jerusalem; brother, Alan Grubb, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; uncle, Keith Beardmore, of Jerusalem; aunt and uncle, Marlene and Steve Book, of Jerusalem; mother-in-law, Anne Sistrunk, of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Magan Sistrunk, of Knoxville, Tennessee; cousins, Nathan Book, of Jerusalem, and Melinda (Aaron) Scott and their son, Henry, of St. Clairsville; also many friends, including Vernon Winkler, of Jerusalem.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Wilson Funeral Home – Harper Chapel, Beallsville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023. Interment follows in Bush Cemetery near Malaga.
