Connie Jean Stephens

Connie Jean Stephens, 64, of Beallsville passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, in Wheeling Hospital.

She was born Oct. 5, 1958, in Barnesville, one of three daughters of the late Hubert “Gene” and Wanda Kemp Wheeler.

Connie was a retired employee of the former ORMET Rolling Mill near Hannibal. She had also worked for years as an accountant, bookkeeper and a licensed tax professional preparing taxes for both individuals and businesses. Connie was a lady of many talents and interests with a work ethic that was second to none. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and boundless energy however with that energy she also brought a sensitivity and quiet dignity to each task on which she was working. Her creativity and artistic talent brought comfort and peace each year during the Christmas season as the grave blankets and wreaths she lovingly created decorated the graves of countless families in cemeteries far and near. Connie was happiest spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her time as “Me Me” to her four grandchildren brought her the greatest joy of her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Stephens, on Nov. 20, 2014, also by a sister, Sharon Shriver.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jessica Stephens, of the home, Jaime (Rhett) Swallie, of Ozark, and Tony (Alyssa) Stephens, of Lewisville; her grandchildren, Paisley and Jessie Swallie and Gwenyth and Kristopher Stephens; a sister, Kathy (Daniel) Clark, of Bethesda, also a niece, Christine.

In keeping with Connie’s wishes private graveside services were held Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, in Beallsville Cemetery. Burial beside her beloved Jesse followed.

In lieu of flowers and keepsakes Connie’s family requests that memorial contributions be made to the MACO Workshop, 47013 State Route 26, Woodsfield, OH 43793.
