RALPH GENE SMITH

Ralph Gene Smith, 89, of Newark, (formerly of Woodsfield) passed away Friday, July 3, 2020, at the home of his daughter in Newark.

He was born in Low Gap on Dec. 30, 1930, a son of the late Everett and Waife Cline Smith.

He was a 1948 graduate of Graysville High School, Graysville; a retired employee of the former Ormet Corporation, Hannibal with 29 years of service and was a former owner of Smith’s T.V. & Repair, Woodsfield. He was a member of the Woodsfield Christian Church, Woodsfield, where he formerly served as a deacon. Gene was also a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Korean Conflict.

Gene enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and camping. He also enjoyed playing music with the former Passin Thru Gospel Group.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Young Smith, on Dec. 23, 2013; two brothers, Howard Smith and Ken-neth Smith; a sister, Ethel Smith.

Surviving are one daughter, Patricia “Trish” (Brian) Snodgrass, of Newark; one sister, Emily (Don) Hartshorn of Woodsfield; two grandchildren, Megan Snodgrass and Justin Snodgrass, both of Newark; several nieces and nephews.

A private visitation for family only was held Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield. A public graveside and military service was held Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at the Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, with Herb Alexander of Grace Christian Church, Woodsfield officiating.
