Cecil E. Smittle, 88, of Sardis, Ohio, passed away Friday, December 1, 2023, at his home.
 He was born May 9, 1935, in Sardis, the son of the late Clarence and Marie Brown Smittle.
 Cecil was a retired truckdriver, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of The Duffy Church of God.
 He was a member of the American Legion Post #760 in Hannibal for 53 years and member of the Moose Lodge #931 in New Martinsville.
 Cecil was an exemplary Mason, having been a member of Masonic Lodge #597 F & A.M. Clarington for over 50 years; a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge; Osiris Shrine-Wheeling; Knights Templar in Shadyside, Ohio; and the Grand Council Royal and Select Masons of Ohio-Bellaire Council 87.
 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marolyn Smittle; three brothers, Ralph, Jim, and Clyde Smittle; a sister, Audrey Kuebel; and a son in law, Jerry “Jug” Armann.
 Survivors include three daughters, Sherrie (Michael “Pete”) Rist, Tanya (Rodney) Roberts, and Angel Armann, all of Hannibal, Ohio; seven grandchildren whom he was affectionally known as Big Pap, Ryan (Kelly) and Heath (Amanda) Collins, Ashley (Chad) Armann, Brittany (Justin) Billiter, Tiffany (Matt) Abbott, Laighnell Roberts and Jerrett Armann; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
 Family will receive friends on Monday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, W.V. where funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Eddie Ankrom officiating.
 Masonic Services will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
 Interment in Harter Cemetery, Hannibal.
