Jerilyn (Jeri) Clegg, 81, of Clarington, Ohio, passed away on Monday February 19, 2024, at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale, W.V. She was born on September 5, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of the late Ray and Fern Brestel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Andrew Clegg and brother-in-law Larry McGary.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jerry R. (Dick) Clegg of Clarington, her daughter Wendy (Jeff) Heimbaugh of Newport, Pa., daughter-in-law Kim (Craig) Downey of Westerville, Ohio, her four grandson, Noah and Levi Heimbaugh of Newport, and Joey and Josh Clegg of Columbus, Ohio, her step-grandchildren, Hannah, Will and Tyler Downey of Westerville, sister Mary (Bill) Meredith of Cincinnati, Ohio, sister Susan (John) Campbell of McCormick, S.C., sister-in-law Donna (Terry) Craig of Clarington, and sister-in-law Marian McGary of Fort Myers, Fla.
Jeri is a graduate of Colerian High School in Cincinnati and Ohio University. After college graduation she worked at NCR in Dayton until the birth of Wendy. After her children had matured, she worked for over 20 years as a legal secretary for Wead, Aultman, and Phipps law firm in Xenia, Ohio. Upon her and her husband’s retirement, they moved from Xenia to Monroe County where he grew up to be close to his mother. Jeri was a talented musician who played the piano and organ at whatever church they were attending. In the early 1990s, she took a basket weaving class at an Adult Education Program at Beavercreek High School and fell in love with basket making. She has made over 3,000 baskets and participated in many craft shows in the area as well as teaching many basket classes. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who was always there to meet their needs. She especially loved attending the sporting and musical events of her grandsons. She was very proud that all of her grandsons have either graduated from college and are now attending college, some at Ohio State and some at Penn State. Jeri has been an active member of First Christian Church in Beallsville, Ohio, for many years and played the piano and/or the organ every Sunday.
Visitation will be 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, February 23 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, Ohio. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 24 with Minister Wayne Clark officiating.
