Monroe Theatre News – Oct. 16, 2025

Entertainment will once again be provided by the Monroe Theatre during the month of October, although at a different site. At the same time, the first of many beginning construction contracts was signed by the Monroe Arts Council with Grae-Con Construction, Inc., Construction Manager at Risk. A review of the Theatre’s past will continue. While the Theatre may appear somewhat quiet, activity abounds in a variety ways.

Conservation Corner – Oct. 16, 2025

In this article of Conservation Corner, we will discuss a topic of much concern and debate here in the county for many of us deer hunters, and that topic is EHD. For some of you reading this, you will have already done your own research on the disease and drawn some conclusions on how it has impacted your local deer herd. I will not speculate in this article on any rumors on the disease, I will only reference facts and information given by deer biologists from the Ohio Division of Wildlife. Primarily I will try to help explain what the disease is, why this year’s outbreak is different than other outbreak years, and what to expect with the deer herd in future years.

Bumpy Road – Oct. 9, 2025

The lack of rain for the past two summers has definitely affected the changing of the leaves this fall. The trees that line the bumpy road are usually a bright shade of yellow by this time each year. Right now they are just brown and falling fast to the ground. By the time this story appears in the Beacon we will have had some rain, which speeds the process of falling leaves. Bummer!
