Thoughts from the Bumpy Road – Sept. 11, 2025

As I sat down in my office chair, opened up my laptop, I realized the significance of the date that this edition of the “Bumpy Road” will be sent out to the subscribers of the Monroe County Beacon. During the course of your life, it is said that, there are days in history that you will never forget where you were and what you were doing. Unfortunately, I have had several of those times, and the date Sept. 11, 2001 (9-11) is one of those days.

Switzer News – Sept. 11, 2025

Terri and I went to Washington, Pa. and met with Nancy Jo Reynolds and Tami Veil. We went to Texas Roadhouse for lunch, had a great meal and great time together. Did some shopping. I went home with Nancy Jo and Tami and Terri came home. Then Nancy Jo brought me home and spent a couple of days before going back to Beaver Falls.

Monroe Theatre News – Sept. 11, 2025

While the previous six years at the Monroe Theatre have focused primarily on entertainment, the next year will afford the public the opportunity to watch a re-creation emerge and explore the Theatre’s past, as well. Entertainment will remain in differing ways. The Theatre’s physical closure in no way implies lack of activity on its part.

Rinard Mills – Sept. 4, 2025

The General Merchandise Store was built first and then the twin houses were built in 1898 to be lived in by brothers George and Jake Bode with their wives. It was sold in 1918 to brothers Oscar and Fred Poulton and their family from Low Gap. We welcome the descendants of these families to stop in and talk history. NJ’s family also owned the store, Franklin and Willis Dye. I love my twin houses, called them my southern home.
