A 2012 USDA Forest Service study titled, “Outdoor recreation trends and futures: a technical document supporting the Forest Service 2010 RPA Assessment”, indicates that Americans are favoring activities like wildlife viewing and photography over traditional activities like hunting, fishing and trapping. These changes in overall attitude toward outdoor activities have a direct impact on sales of hunting and fishing licenses as well as the supplies. ODNR has reported steady declines in hunting and fishing license sales since the 1950s and only 8% of Ohioans contribute to wildlife conservation through license purchases.

Switzer & area News
Justin and Carrie Thomas have a new addition to their two boys, Ian and Ryland, a baby girl named Callie Ann. She graced our presence on March 2, 2023. All 7 pounds, 19.5 inches of her were quickly spoiled by grandparents, Dave and Christy Thomas, great-grandparents, Dick and Darlene Crothers. The next day the spoiling continued with her brothers, grandmother, Julie Spence, and grandmother, Erin Hickel, along with great-grandmother, Carolyne “Susie” Wolfe. A warm welcome home came from Uncle Dietrich Loiseau on Saturday. Congratulations were sent from Grandmother Pam Smith, great-grandparents, Chuck and Linda Debolt. Many other aunts, uncles, and cousins are yet to get a chance to spoil her.

Village Values
Once every two weeks, I pick up a big basket full of clean socks by our wash area and have the kids help me pair them up and place in another basket by their shoes. As we matched up Jack’s little ones, JJ’s sporty ones, Jorgi’s loud ones, I realized how much time this sock hack had saved me. Before my current situation I was very much a person that believed that socks, along with all of a person’s wardrobe belonged in his or her room, specifically in a dresser or closet. The socks were laundered along with all of the clothing and then tucked away up several flights of stairs. Then began the long process of making sure it was all put away.
