White smoke rose and the church bells rang out to proclaim a new Pope had been chosen on Thursday, May 8. Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost from Chicago, Ill. was chosen. The Cardinal announced he would be called: Pope Leo the XIV. He is the 267th of the Catholic Church and the first Pope born in the United State.
