Ag Education successes highlighted during SOLSD Board Meeting

It’s not uncommon for the Switzerland of Ohio Local School District’s Ag Education programs to be highlighted.With Monroe Central’s FFA program leading the way, the continued growth in ag science interest among district students in a relatively short amount of time is hard to ignore.The SOLSD Board of Education got to hear more about these successes during an update from district Ag Education Program Coordinator during their regular meeting Thursday, Nov.

Limited funds lead to uncertain future for Broken Timber

For nearly 20 years, the volunteers of Broken Timber Outdoor Education Center have shared their love of the outdoors with children of Monroe County.Whether it was teaching youths how to hunt and trap safely or just enjoying a day of fishing with the family, Broken Timber volunteers looked forward to encouraging the next generation to take part in a community-shared pastime.And what made it even more special is that Broken Timber was able to do it for all children free of charge.The ability to continue to do that is in question as questions about where Broken Timber will reside and how it will afford to pay for hoped-for upgrades might force changes in how the non-profit operates.Keith Jones, volunteer with Broken Timber, met with the Monroe County Commissioners and Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney James L.
