What could make relaxing in downtown Woodsfield on a warm summer night better – why, doing so with your favorite beverage, of course.That’s going to be a new option as the Village of Woodsfield’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) officially starts this upcoming weekend.Through the DORA, all those of legal drinking age will be permitted to carry open containers of alcohol in the designated DORA district from 6 to 10 p.m.
Woodsfield District Library hopes to get young readers to go on reading adventures this summer through its Summer Reading Program.It got many of those young readers off to a start with a slithery snake safari Monday, June 3 at the Monroe Theatre.The library welcomed Andrew Hall and many of his scaled friends from Realm of the Reptile, an educational and entertaining reptile experience that has been featured on the Discovery Channel.Hall and his friends took excited children on a trip to Australia, Egypt and their own backyard.He started the show off with a friend many of the children had probably seen all the time, the familiar box turtle.Hall’s pal, Boxie, the eastern box turtle wasn’t excited to run, but he was happy to show the children why he was called a box turtle.After scoffing at Hall’s efforts to spur him to a gallop, Boxie was eager to tuck away into his box-like shell.Smart children were able to guess the things Boxie likes to eat, which includes many things they enjoy, such as blueberries and grapes.But they weren’t ready to join Boxie when he munched on worms.
Each Memorial Day is filled with ceremonies and the outpouring of love and respect from every community around the country.It’s a day meant to promote the honoring and mourning of the military personnel who died during their service.
Woodsfield Village Council approved its newest member as Kaylee Sefert was appointed to council during its regular meeting Monday, June 3.Sefert will complete the unexpired term of LeAnne Harper, who submitted her resignation a few weeks prior.Sefert has lived in the village the past two years and is part of the village’s Community Strong Committee, which organizes events in the village.“I’m happy to see a young face (on council),” Hehr said.Sefert was appreciative of the chance to serve her community.“Thank you,” she said.

The Monroe County Court of Common Pleas – Probate and Juvenile Division was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $99,945 through the Ohio Supreme Court from the Ohio Courts Technology Initiative.These funds will be utilized to electronically scan and digitize older Probate Court records.
