The Monroe County Commissioners joined forces with Monroe County’s JFS to combat child abuse and neglect.The commissioners proclaimed April Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month during their regular meeting Monday, April 8.According to the proclamation read by the commissioners, nearly 4 million children were reported abused or neglected in federal fiscal year 2023, with 15,400 confirmed reports in the state of Ohio.Partnerships shared by social service agencies, law enforcement agencies, local businesses and religious and civic organizations can help create and maintain effective child abuse prevention programs.Monroe County JFS Director Jeannette Schwall credited some of those partnerships that exist locally.In Monroe County, Monroe County JFS works with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, which provides an officer to assist county social service workers.Schwall thanked Monroe County Sheriff Charles Black for providing Deputy Michael Boucher to Monroe County JFS.“(Boucher) is a huge asset,” Schwall said.
