Passion walk perseveres

Who will carry the cross?That was the question facing the organizers of the annual Passion Walk in Monroe County.With less than a week to go, the walk was without it’s most important person – someone to bear the cross.For the past few years, Woodsfield resident Dan Weber played the role – though he freely admitted it was too big a role for someone to play.

Woodsfield Council offering clean-up days later this month

Village of Woodsfield residents will have the opportunity to do some spring-cleaning and offload some unwanted stuff as the village announced the dates for its clean-up weeks for the spring and summer.The village will extend the program this year, offering three different weeks from April through July.From Monday, April 22 through Friday, April 26, dumpsters will be located at the Monroe Memorial Pool parking lot off Eastern Avenue.From Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 7, dumpsters will be located at the Woodsfield Municipal Building on South Main Street.From Monday, July 22 through Friday, July 26, dumpsters will be located at the Woodsfield Street Department on Oaklawn Avenue.The dumpsters will be available for village residents only.

Commissioners recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month

The Monroe County Commissioners teamed up with Tri-County Help Center to raise awareness for an issue that affects many county residents.In recognition of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the commissioners read a proclamation declaring the month as such during their regular meeting Monday, April 1.The month provides an “opportunity to raise awareness about sexual assault, educate communities about prevention strategies and support survivors in their journey toward healing and justice.”The proclamation was part of a month-long campaign by Tri-County Help Center.The efforts throughout the month include educational workshops aimed at educating the community on the signs of sexual assault, consent, bystander intervention and resources available for survivors.
