Making beautiful music at Beallsville

For years, there was little music being made in the Switzerland of Ohio Local School District.Budget cuts limited options for district students, especially in terms of the arts, leaving most students without a musical outlet.Time went by and traditionally large marching bands at area schools became a memory.And memories are hard to recreate, especially from scratch.But one teacher’s efforts are starting to show the sprouts of growth at the Beallsville campus.Beallsville music teacher Abigail McElroy has managed to turn a non-existent band program into something to be celebrated in a short time.Two of her students were recognized by the SOLSD Board of Education during its regular meeting Thursday, Jan.

Village council discusses leadership training for village admin

The Village of Woodsfield is looking for options to create the best leaders and workers in its workforce.With several new department superintendents in the past few years, Village Administrator Kevin Brooks felt the village was providing many of the tools for these individuals to succeed, but one main area was not being addressed - leadership.Brooks hoped to find a way to create better leaders and workers as he proposed the idea of introducing leadership and skills training to village administration and workers during Woodsfield Village Council’s regular meeting Monday, Jan.
