Monroe Central got a walk-off win over county-rival River in an 8-7 victory Wednesday, April 10 at Woodsfield.Shyann Baker bunted in Maclarin Craft to give the Seminoles the victory and complete a three-run final inning.In addition to scoring the winning run, Craft tied the game in the previous at bat, scoring two with a triple.Kazziah Cecil and Karlie Haslam pitched in the game for Monroe Central.River got a solid offensive performance from Kelsey Harlan in the game.
Each of the county’s three high schools competed in the first Ohio Valley Track League meet of the season Tuesday, April 9 at Shadyside High School.County runners excelled in sprinting events.Monroe Central junior Evan Knowlton won the 100 in 11.43.
River picked up two wins last week.The Pilots eked out an 8-7 win over Shenandoah Wednesday, April 10 at River High School.River jumped out to a quick lead, scoring five runs in the first inning.The Zeps bounced back, however, scoring four in the third to take a 7-6 lead.A two-run fourth proved to be the difference for the Pilots.Peyton Blue led the River offense, hitting a home run and a single with three RBIs.Lucas Dennis had two singles and two RBIs and Carson Makris, Cale Willis and Wyatt Stalder a single and an RBI each.Blue started the game, allowing three unearned runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings.Dennis finished the game.

Two of Monroe County’s best were named among the state’s best as the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association announced the Division IV boys’ All-Ohio teams Wednesday, March 27.River senior Kabel Isaly and Monroe Central junior Tucker Howell were named to the Division IV second team.Isaly led the Pilots with 23.4 points per game this season.Howell set the pace for the Seminoles, averaging 19.9 points per game.Also for the Seminoles, junior Chance Allen was given honorable mention.
