MOVL All-Star selections announced

The Mid-Ohio Valley League recently announced its basketball all-star selections.On the boys’ side, Monroe Central finished the regular season unbeaten, winning the Scarlet Division.The Seminoles’ first team selections included juniors Tucker Howell and Chance Allen.Monroe Central’s second-team selections included freshman Cooper Howell and junior Dylan Parden.River was fourth in the MOVL Scarlet Division.Senior Kabel Isaly was named to the first team and junior Lucas Dennis was named to the second team.Beallsville was third in the Gray Division.Senior Thorn Stoffel was named to the first team and freshman Kayson Hoff to the second team.On the girls’ side, River and Monroe Central tied for the Scarlet Division title.For River, senior Kelsey Harlan and junior Reese Hobbs were named to the first team and junior Kaylee Hagan and sophomore Zoey Fox to the second team.For Monroe Central, senior Riley Bettinger and sophomore Jacey English were named to the first team and sophomore Mayzie Emery and freshman Jadyn Miller to the second team.Beallsville was second in the Gray Division.Senior Kinley Hughes was named to the first team and freshman Megan Robinson to the second team.

River stuck in a replay against Hiland

River Coach Rick Isaly must have thought he was watching a replay of last year’s district final.Saturday’s rematch in the Division IV district final against Berlin Hiland was almost a carbon copy of how the game played out one year ago.River started well, kept it close through the best part of two quarters.But then the Hawks take over.Just like in 2023, Isaly and his team had to watch the game gradually get away in the second half.And just like in 2023, River had to settle for falling short of its goal of a district title in a 62-44 loss Saturday, March 2 at Cambridge High School.“In the second quarter, it started to get away from us,” Isaly said.
