CHARLES (CHUCK) HELBLING

 Charles (Chuck) Straight Helbling passed away on May 22, 2024, at the age of 86. Chuck was born on March 4, 1938, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, the only child of Charles Louis Helbling and Eleanor Elizabeth Straight. Chuck was raised in Woodsfield, Ohio, and graduated from Woodsfield High School in 1956 where he was on the basketball and baseball teams and a member of the marching band. He was a talented musician, an outstanding trumpet and piano/keyboard player.
 Chuck graduated from Ohio University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. After college he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his six months active duty in the Army, he served in the Army Reserves for 11 years. He worked for Aetna Life and Casualty as a Safety Engineer serving in Cleveland, Ohio, Hartford, Conn. and Detroit, Mich. He retired from Aetna with his last position as engineering manager in the Detroit Branch.
 After his retirement in 1989 he returned to Woodsfield and enjoyed woodworking and playing trumpet in Paul Ring’s Lazy River Dixieland Jazz Bank. He married his second wife, Carole, September 10, 1994. He moved to the Bethlehem and Reading areas of Pennsylvania where Carole was working and they resided there for 16 years. After Carole’s retirement in 2010, they returned to Woodsfield.
 Chuck is a member of St. Paul’s UCC Church and the Masonic Lodge #189 for over 25 years and achieved a 32nd Degree. Chuck enjoyed traveling, visiting his children and stepchildren, and attending various symphonies, concerts, plays, wherever he could enjoy his deep love of music.
 Chuck is predeceased by his parents and his beloved pup, Joey.
 He is survived by his first wife of 27 years, Margaret (Peggy) Helbling of Michigan with whom he shared three children: Stephanie (David) Breidenbaugh, New Haven, Ind.; Cynthia (Scott) Willis, Whitmore Lake, Mich.; and John (Heather) Helbing, Livonia, Mich.
 Also, his wife Carole King-Helbling; stepchildren Beverly (Eric) Weaver, Broomfield, Colo.; Robert (Kristin) Blank, Bloomington; his beloved grandchildren Kayla, Zachary (Faith), Tyler Willis, Michigan; Marissa and Jacob Helbling, Michigan; Hannah Breidenbaugh, Indiana; Nathan Blank, Minnesota; David (Katie) Blank, Florida.
 A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Paul’s UCC Church, 303 S. Main St., Woodsfield, on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Friends received from 10 a.m. until Funeral Service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Christy Thomas officiating. Graveside Services will be at Oaklawn Cemetery following the service.
