DARLENE “PEACH” CROTHERS

Darlene “Peach” Crothers of Clarington joined the Angel’s Orchestra early on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. She was born on July 1, 1947, in Bellaire, Ohio, to the late Charles and Opal (Leek) Smith. Peach’s legacy was one of family and love.
Peach was a 1965 graduate of Powhatan High School. She was preceded in death just six months ago by her loving husband of 54 years, Richard Snyder Crothers, who stood by her side through life’s joys and challenges. Together, they created a family filled with love and laughter. Peach leaves behind a legacy of love as a mother to six children, Doug (Marilyn) Crothers of College Grove, Tenn.; Jim (Linda) Crothers of Clarington, Ohio; Roger Crothers of Columbus, Ohio; Jill (Suzie Doscher) Crothers of Columbia, Tenn.; Christy (Dave) Thomas of Clarington, Ohio; and John (Katrenia) Crothers of Waverly, W.V.
Peach is survived by her sister, Lois Lawhorne, and brother, Charles (Barbara) Smith Jr. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly through her grandchildren: Stacy (John) Wallace, Natasha (Nate) Coiner, Monique (Zack) Williams, Nathan (Mallorie) Crothers, DJ (Megan) Thomas, Amber (Michael) Thomas, Justin (Carrie) Thomas, Erika (Charlie) Logston, Austin Moore, Jacie and Jacob Crothers. She also leaves behind 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory and carry her legacy forward with pride.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Kay (Clayton) Boltz; brothers-in-law, Sam Lawhorne; Harry C. (Phyllis) Crothers and Roy M. (Darla) Crothers; and two nephews, Bruce and Brent Lawhorne.
Peach’s commitment to her faith was unwavering. Throughout her life she was a pianist and organist for multiple churches beginning in her teenage years. She was a dedicated member of St. Johns United Church of Christ and was active in other churches in Monroe County and the Pioneer Larger Parish. Her nickname came honestly for her love of peaches and given to her at a young age. She was an elementary teacher where she loved to play basketball with the students at recess until an injury early in her career. She taught piano in her home for many years as she stayed home to raise her children. Along with her musical talents she loved baking, sewing and caring for her family.
A Celebration of Life for Peach will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 51705 German Ridge Rd, Powhatan Pt, OH 43942 to honor her memory with Rev. Kirk Bruce officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or any children’s help group of your choice.
