Ellen Louise Powell, age 83, of Sardis, went onto her heavenly home on Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, at Camden Clark – WVU Hospital, Parkersburg, West Virginia.

She was born Dec. 24, 1938, in Doddridge County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Garlen J. and Willa Barker Ashcraft.

Ellen was a loving wife and mother to her husband and children, to whom she cared for deeply until she passed.

She was a devoted housewife and took care of everything around the house and loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the former Baptist Church in Sardis In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Albert Powell; a son, Guy Powell; a daughter, Ruth Metz; a grandson, Josh; and two great-grandchildren, Josie and Logan, Survivors include three sons, George, Jr., Garlen and Gene Powell, all of Sardis; two daughters, Diane (Geron) Powell, of Alabama, and Pam (Joe) Edgell, of Sardis; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and her two pets, Momma Cat and Emma.

We will miss her dearly and thank God for all the precious memories we have.

Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 37234 Mound St., Sardis, with Bill Vaughn officiating.

Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
