Eunice Darlene (Workman) Quails, 86, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Arbors of Woodsfield. She was born in Laings Green Township, Ohio, a daughter of the late Homer and Eunice Henderlong Workman.
As a child, Darlene grew up on the Workman Farm in Laings where she was surrounded by music, farming, played softball and was a great help to her mom and dad. She was always very popular and graduated salutatorian of Laings High School. She had one brother, Elroy, whom she treasured and remained his closest friend until his death.
She learned to drive at a young age and set out on a course to be a positive contribution to her family and community. She married Tony in June of 1957 and remained in Monroe County her entire life. She has three children and treasured every minute she had with them. She loved to travel and visited her husband’s family in Alabama and Florida as often as possible. She was a charter member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 60 years, sang in the choir, taught vacation bible school, lead committees, served on many pastor search committees, mentored others, served Christ, honored others and won many people to the Lord through her witness. She spoke often that the only true way to heaven is through Christ. She was a pillar, a leader and servant to so many. She was the greatest daughter, friend and neighbor, as well as an example of Christ to Monroe County. She was the perfect mom and loved her family deeply. She was smart and loved to read, especially her Bible. After she retired, she helped start an English as a second language program for the county. Along with her husband they traveled with Ohio Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team: flood disaster Oceana, W.V., 9-11 at Floyd Bennett Airfield Brooklyn, N.Y., and Hurricane relief at Ocala, Fla., and Beaumont, Texas. She gave people rides, cooked for people, listened and laughed. She had the best smile ever. She arrived into the world as a premature baby, but boy did she make a splash on life and lived it to the fullest. She will be missed by so many, but we know she is at peace with Christ our savior now.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Elroy Workman, and her husband Tony Lee Quails the one true love of a lifetime.
Survivors that will miss her dearly are her son Anthony “Tony” (Alma) Quails of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters Angela (Johnny) Hare of Louisville, Ky.; Anita (Mark) Hoke of Laings; grandchildren Leah (Bill) Sikes of Cleveland, Ohio; Anthony (Kumiko) Quails of Fleming Island, Fla.; Nathan Quails of Columbus, Ohio; Brandon (Molly) Hare of Centerville, Ohio; Brian (Katie) Hare of Louisville; Britney (Todd) Boyer of Barnesville, Ohio; great-grands Sarah and Aiden Quails; Elizabeth, William, John and Margaret Sikes; Emma and Ezra Hare; Lane Boyer; sister-in-law Grace (Quails) Burkett of Mobile, Ala.; many nieces and nephews.
