Instead of loading their backseats with bad guys Friday, June 15, cruisers from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and Woodsfield Police Department were loaded with dog food and toys.

Several steep flights of stairs and ladders, interspersed as a winding network of passages, required a firm handhold and barely permitted four grown men to pass to the roof of the courthouse Monday, June 18.

A vacant 10-acre lot next to Woodsfield Savings Bank on State Route 78 west of Woodsfield is the future home of an expanded Ohio Hills Health Services medical facility.

An expanded medical center will soon break ground in Woodsfield according to Woodsfield Village Council member Tom Kirkland and Ohio Hills Health Services CEO Jeff Britton.

Kirkland announced the upcoming project during the Woodsfield Village Council meeting Monday, June 18.

Local 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program Receives State Community Service Award

   The Monroe County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program was recently honored at the Ohio 4-H Conference on March 14 at the Columbus Convention Center. The group received one of four State Community Service Awards. The award was presented for their work to provide horse rides to children and adults with disabilities in Monroe County.

Area Code Changes To Impact Local Calls

Back in the old days, talking to someone in town on the telephone involved picking up the phone and asking a switch board operator to transfer you to the right line. Many readers will remember the infamous party lines and nosy neighbors listening in on conversations. Those days are long gone, and beginning on March 21, so will be the days of dialing a local exchange without the area code. 

Commissioners Grant Funding to Townships

Twice before, the Monroe County Township Association, on behalf of the townships in the county, has requested a bigger piece of the county’s tax revenue pie. Both times, their requests were not fulfilled. The third time was the charm as the association was granted more tax revenue from commissioners during the regular session meeting on March 16. 

Blue Racer Donates to Monroe County EMA

Blue Racer Midstream donated a $2,500.00 check to the Monroe Count EMA along with four Altair 4X gas monitors and a Galaxy GX2 bump station. “With this equipment we will be able to determine gas levels and safe zones when working with oil and gas events.” said EMA Director Phil Keevert.  Pictured, from left to right, are: Blue Racer Safety/ERC, Larry W.

During this time of year basketball fans are sure to get their fill of highlights, buzzer beaters, and end of game drama! This year many basketball fans head into the NCAA tournament season with a bit of sadness because of the passing of legendary coach Dean Smith of North Carolina. He had won national championships and coached the 1976 gold medal Olympic Team.
