“I was out here 21 years ago,” said Switzerland of Ohio Schools District Treasurer Connie Kress during a tour of Swiss Hills Career Center at the Feb. 13 school board meeting. “This place hasn’t changed in 21 years.”

Monroe County could have a much clearer Geographic Information System (GIS) map this year thanks to a team effort spearheaded by Monroe County Tax Map Supervisor Corey Stollar, Auditor Pandora Neuhart and Engineer Amy Zwick.

Emergency crews in Belmont County were alerted of the fire at 9:38 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15.

Depression and the Elderly

“Oh the weather outside is frightful....” but what it does to us inside can be much more scary.  Many seniors suffer from depression but may think it is just a normal part of the aging process. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Depression is not a sign of aging, nor does it have to be accepted as such.

Kenneth Moose

Kenneth Roger Moose, 71, of Woodsfield, passed away December 23, 2014 at Barnesville Hospital.  He was born on the family farm on Moose Ridge in Woodsfield, October 30, 1943, a son of the late William Rodgers Moose and Edna Irene Estill Moose.

William Nenstiel

William C. Nenstiel, 87, of Woodsfield, passed away December 22, 2014 at his home.  He was born in Nuremburg, Pennsylvania, October 6, 1927, a son of the late William J. Nenstiel and Geneva Spiece Nenstiel.

Hazel Howell

Hazel Howell, 96, of the Monroe County Care Center, formerly of Jerusalem, died December 26, 2014 at the Center. She was born September 19, 1918 in New Martinsville, West Virginia, a daughter of the late John and Lucinda Kirkman West. 

Hazel was a member of the Church of Christ. 

Amy Highman

Amy Ouita Highman, 79, of Ashland, Ohio went home to be with her Lord, December 24, 2014 at Hospice of North Central Ohio surrounded by her family.She was born January 29, 1935 to parents Oliver Thurman (O.T.) and Audrey (nee Highman) Gatten in Monroe County , Ohio .

 She married Donald Highman July 6, 1974.

Vickie Conger

Vickie L. Ayers Conger, 61, Woodsfield, passed away December 25, 2014 at the Marietta Center, Marietta, Ohio. She was born at Canton, Ohio on June 5, 1953, a daughter of Laura Weckbacher Ayers who survives of Sycamore Valley, Ohio and the late Charles Melvin Ayers.
